I find it is now difficult to find clubs that will let you in wearing any kind of denim or trainers. Why can women wear ridiculously short skirts and yet guys can't wear short trousers? I've noticed some clubs saying that only 'fashionable' trainers are allowed... is that not elitist? What are your thoughts? (Particularly would like to hear from people who have a strong case for imposing strict dress codes)

To make one thing clear, I am talking about London really. Even some of the rock clubs are now imposing dress codes so this pattern is not restricted to any kind of music.

Night clubs are for enjoyment. Not school or army office.
Dress code will not be advisable.

I personaly would love the clubs around my area to have a stricter dress code!!
I live in Torquay and the nightlife is full of shorts and surf wear! I do surf and jet ski however wot is the problem with making an effort on a nite out?
One of my friends in Newquay owns a nightclub and the way he keeps out all the young trouble makers is to put a strict dress code at his door! Now he attracts high end clients with more money to spend but also much more mature minded people

Most clubs in my area allow denim and trainers on a Friday night only. I feel the clubs are right in imposing a dress code and yes it is elitist. Usually when you go to a club the idea is to dress up to look and feel good, not dress up in scruffy jeans and trainers you might as well go down the spit and sawdust pub!

I agree with it and understand it. It all comes down to business.
To start with the owners want decent people that will spend money, it might elitist but they run a business. Also if you have scruffy looking people in your club you are more likely to loose other customers and therby profit. Generally club owners want men with money and good looking girls that men with money can spend money on. Simple as that. That's why a lot of clubs won't let a group of guys in without female company.
Also they don't want fights in their clubs, it again impacts their profit through damage or loss of customers. Would you want to go to a club where people are fighting every weekend? Women in general tend to fight less or be more controllable should there be a fight. Also in mixed groups things tends to be a bit more calm than just a group of guys where things can get heated when alcohol gets in the mix.
The dresscode is there to basically to set a standard. This is the kind of clientelle we want in our club. Men that go to a club dressed in jeans, trainers and a t-shirt doesn't look like he is there to spend money and if there is 5 guys behind him that does look like they are, the club would rather let them in.

I'm assuming you're talking about clubs in more metropolitan areas. None of the clubs in my area have dress codes beyond the usual "No shirt, no shoes, no service." You know, the same as any other place.

most of the clubs i go to have a dress code, even the crap ones. i think its good because it makes people look better, saying that i often see a lot of badly dressed people so imagine how bad people would look if there wasnt a dress code! oh you men, have so many issues! love being a gurl, & a girly gurl at that xxx

I don't get it. Presumably it's so they get 'the right kind of people' in, but they still end up fighting and throwing up in the street afterwards. I've been in clubs in other countries where there was no dress code and there was never any trouble.
