Right now we have smorgasbord. Chuck Hagel appears to be backing out, which is no great loss. Fred Dalton Thompson is the latest "possible" although he hasn't formally announced. He and Mitt Romney look very good if they can get the necessary financial backing. Check their credentials on Wikipedia. Both are very accomplished, no-nonsense people.
Hillary and Obama look good for dog-catcher.

Technically speaking the parties havent picked any nominees yet.
Of the current field I would pick:
Obama for the dems (but Gore would be preferable to me)
McCain for the Republicans

I'll tell you in 2008. Many things can happen to change an opinion in that length of time.

Best Republican: Ron Paul
Best Democrat: Dennis Kucinich
Neither of them are likely to win or even get media attention, but they are both honest and they both were right about Iraq.

I think it is too early to select the best. My best guess it will come down to Clinton/Obama vs. McCain/Guiliani.

Barack Obama. He'll earn the respect with our friends internationally as well as continue to elevate the morals and ethics in US Policies. He will also get our Troops home sooner and make sure they’ll never fight another fake war for personal gains.
