is it to play new games? i hope not because i don't have a wireless router and i can't access it through wires!!

You don't need the update to play new games. The Wii should work on all Wii and GC games without any problem.
The PS3 and 360 need updates because those systems aren't 100% backward compatible with their respective last gen consoles, so updates need to be installed in order to make it bc with old games.

never know but right now it is not critical. maybe in the future it might be needed but you will be fine for a while. and if you have friends that have a wireless you can take it there and updated it.

You really do not need to update it. The update is for when they get new Channels and things similar to that. So you should be fine.

well now u can access through wires because they made the wii lan cable. Or you could wifi it.
