Not necessarily. Some pregnancy tests are more sensitive than others. I'd suggest she tries again every few days until she gets her period or a positive!

I'm in the same boat although I'm 6 days late with a negative HPT. From what I have been reading some people don't test positive until 2 weeks after a missed period. There are two things you could do, wait another few days and take another test or go to the DR and ask for a blood test.

It is still possible she is pregnant I would try one of the early detection pregnancy tests they require less hCG (pregnancy hormone) than the regular tests.
