As you live in Worcestershire, probably one of your closest zoo's is West Midlands Safari & Leisure Park. However, as elephants kill more keepers than any other animal, and injuries are common, is very difficult to get work expereince. Try writing them a letter and see what response you get.
Alternatively, Blackpool Zoo offer an elephant encounter, you pay about £100 and you get to do some work with the ele's, think its washing them down and joining the keepers in taking them for a walk. Other zoo's might offer this too, just look online at the zoo's homepages.
Best of luck.

As someone else said, it's impossible. Elephants are potentially very dangerous and people who start working with them have all had lots of experience with other animals first. Even then, nobody will make it as an elephant keeper unless the elephants are prepared to work with them.
It is a sad fact that over the years many experienced elephant keepers have suddenly been killed by them and so there is no way that inexperienced people could be allowed anywhere near them.
However, if you are at least 16, there are plenty of other animals to choose from which are thoroughly rewarding to work with, even just for a day. For an experience with large mammals why not opt for horses, donkeys, cattle or llamas they are all amazing to be around and may even give you a taste of being intimidated by something big and strong!

You could go to the local weight watchers meeting.(Just Joking) Contact your local Zoo or one in your area they all have various programs for people to volunteer their time. No guarantee of elephants though. You could contact Longleat House in Wiltshire who would probably know.

One man at a circus complained and complained ad nauseum to his pal that all he did was follow the elephants around with a shovel. When his friend suggested that he leave, he remarked, "And quit show biz?"

You can't. Working with elephants is very dangerous. You would need extensive training first.

You might check with your local zoo to see if they have a zookeeper for the day program. If not, ask their advice.
Have a great day!
