I have a Packard Bell AMD Athlon XP 2800+
2.07 Ghz, 512 MB ram.

You should set it at 60 because anything above that is bad on the cpu, If your cpu is running hot, try adding another fan in the case. Amds run hotter than intel chips, but if you are not overclocking it, it will run cool with low load levels. But 60 is the range to shoot for. I run my 64/2 4200+ at 2.7 and it runs at 32c with a full load. But don't try this if you are not an overclocker.

Go to AMD's website and read the specs on your specific CPU.

NOTE: Most modern motherboards have a sensor that protects the CPU from overheating. This may be a non-issue.

should be pre set but 75 degrees should be ok to start, and if you keep getting alarms bring it up by 5 degrees at a time till the alarm goes off and leave it running like that for a few days. if the alarm keeps going off 85 degrees should be max really but see you manufactures or ring them.

Im not to sure about the athlonXP but with my processor P4 D i have set it to 52*C but athlons do run much cooler ... set for around 50*C i think

Anything above 65 degrees is at red.

Set it at 65 or 70.

i have mine set to 60c... i know CPU's can operate at a higher temperature then this but its better to be safe then sorry...
