Haha.
No, I'm not at starbucks now. And in response to the "mind my own business remark," I was trying to get an understanding of why people might pass judgements based on the act of sitting in a coffee-shop working on a laptop. I have heard accusations against them that they are "snobs," "yuppies," "pretentious," etc.

Why should I mind my own business about it?? This is a question forum, and I'd like to hear some reasons why people may or may not believe my question to be true.

I think that stereotype is slipping away, now that more and more people are doing it. Just try and mind your own business and not worry about what strangers think about it.

People care less and less these days but it's still a stereotype. Starbucks has such a bad reputation now for being associated with pretentious yuppies who don't care about 'mom & pop' coffee shops that all people in Starbucks are sometimes seen as jerks. To then sit there 'flaunting' a laptop just adds to it. Some people think using a laptop in any coffee shop is pretentious because you want to ask them 'Why don't you just use your damn computer at home rather than hogging space and sitting there all day using the internet'. In their defense, laptops are the new books and no one seemed to think it was that bad to read a book in a coffee shop before. I rarely go into Starbucks because there's never anywhere to sit because everyone is lounging around on a laptop. One guy was sitting alone at a table just charging his cell phone. He wasn't even drinking coffee.
Whatever, people will get over it eventually.
Remember when anyone on a cell phone was considered pretentious? Now everyone has one and no one cares as much.

Who consideres it to be pretentious?
Who?
Who knows?
Who cares?
Edit: caryeliz…,
I went back and read your remark and I would like to say I'm sorry for sounding rude.
I don't like to be judged and this is why I left my answer at the start.
Some people are so judgemental not matter what it's about.
As one /s can note just by being a person asking Q's or person A's on Yahoo Q's & A's.
Bur the point is this is life, each person having their own choices and even if that being them being Judge & Jury.
Have a good day...

It's no more pretentious than the women who go in public wearing slacks cut down to the top of their "pubes," belly button rhinestones, a tiny short, low cut top, with 90% of their boobs pushed up, hair extentions, fake 4 in. red painted nails, 5 in. heels, and a $500 name brand hand bag, slung over their shoulder. All the while talking on their cel phone, and gesturing like they're talking to Brad Pitt.

I think it is because some of those people that consider it pretentious don`t have nothing better to do than to criticize and judge other people. They probably think that you are just trying to show off. They are just jealous, because they probably don`t even know how to use a computer at all.
