So, you work only 5 days a week and you want the interest rate to be active only while you work to pay off the debt. Hmmm. You owe the money 24/7, that is why the interest rate applies that way, Pay off the debt as soon as possible and be very strong against getting into more debt using the card.

The credit card company didn't ask you to apply for their credit card. You had the option of not getting a card. You knew what the interest was when you got it.
The credit card company might ask you the same question you're asking in reverse, e.g., we're charging you interest 24 x 7. Why aren't you working 24 x 7?

Man, nothing about credit cards is fair. The whole concept is a horrible scam. As for the interest charges, it is my understanding that the interest is compounded on a daily basis, not an hourly one. I'm not positive about that, but I think it would take way too much computer processing for them to compound it hourly.

It's your own fault if you are living beyond your means. If you're working just to pay your credit card bills, it's time to re-evaluate your incoming and outgoing finances and adjust them accordingly to fit your life style. Credit cards are not a necessity, they are a luxury. Yes, sometimes you do need a credit card just as verification maybe to hold a hotel, reservations, etc., but that doesn't mean that an individual needs to overspend beyond what they cannot handle.

cant you use your credit card 24/7? Do you stop earning interest on your savings after 3pm when the banks close?

Well, for starters, people work different schedules.
I suppose you think people who don't work (for whatever reason) should have their credit card debt forgiven? Gee, if that's all it took, half the US should quit their jobs!
You spent the money; grow a spine and deal with it. (I'm still paying off $28k in credit card debt myself, so I know that of which I speak.)

There is nothing fair about credit cards. It's a business, and they aren't in the business of looking out for you and your finances.
It's a hard truth, and most of us don't learn it until much too late.
