A country can develop only when the individuals develop.
Developing individually means increasing the knowledge relating to the essentials of Life. That must start within ...
Love the world.. have a humanly heart...creative thoughts...
devotion to duty.... dedication in working... and decipline in all day to day life will make an individual a valuable citizen of the country thus when personalities develop the country will automatically develop in all fields of life. But until and unless individual prepares himself there can't be development of self, family, society and the country. That is what has happened since independence. Selfish power politics and jelousy on other's achievements and leg pulling attitude has pushed as back so far... but inspite of that there are some beacon lights of hope in few luminiaries who has brought our great country to the present stage of respectability and we are heading towards achieving the status of Developed Country which is the dream of our honourable President
A,P.J. Abdul Kalam.. and we will realise the dream by 2020.

Are you speaking of India? Check out the hunger, the poverty, the crowded living condition of masses upon masses of people. THAT is why you are considered a Third World and developing nation. You are not able to take care of your people yet without massive aid.
Regardless of the fact that some are extremely wealthy. What is your infant mortality rate among the poor? Elephants and tigers kill hundreds every year. There are open sewers. Come on.....get real.

independence and development are not necessarily correlated. some countries, for instance Latin America countries, have been independent from the 19th century and are still underdeveloped.
