You can close some applications to recover memory. You can also check your computer for virus if it is using too much memory than the programs you are using can use. You can also use 3rd party memory programs to free memory.

You can defrag ram, and recover some ram. You can go and get system mechanic 7 and use it to recover ram and defrag your ram which is a very useful tool, and it cleans your computer 100% of junk that builds up after years of use. I use it and have use this tool for years, I run it on all repairs that come into my shop, and after I build a new custom system I run this tool to clean up after software installs. Been in the business for 15yrs and love it.

You recover RAM by closing open applications.
You don't need to defragment it because it has very low seek times and is constantly changing anyway.

No i think that you are referring to the wrong thing. RAM is just the small storage that your computer uses to accomplish tasks. I believe that you are referring to your hard drive (where you store all your data, files, pictures, programs, etc.) Anyway, Windows has a built in system restore feature. If your computer is still running then you can find the system restore wizard and restore it to an earlier point.

If your computer will not startup then you need to reinstall the operating system. Find your windows xp or recovery disc, put it in the disc drive, restart your computer and then follow the prompts on screen to restore your computer.

Defragment the computer by clicking on Start>Programs>Accessories>Systems Tools>Disk Defragmenter

forget abt defragmenting the RAM... not reqd. however to recover the RAM.. press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to bring up the windows task manager. in the processes window..select the process which u feel is not reqd and click end process. this will free up the ram being used by that process. take care not to shut down critical processess.

there are third party programs will try to release and refresh RAM at the pre-set time, if you don't want to mess around with program, just restart your computer again, it should refresh your RAM again. Search for such programs at http://download.com and http://tucows.com

Ram does not get fragmented. If you feel your computer is slowing down because of memory use. Reboot your computer.
