My wife would like to paint our nursery, but we are unsure if it is safe to do so. The warnings on the paint cans only talk about removing old paint, (lead paint dust). We are using DutchBoy DuraClean Latex Paint. There is plenty of ventilation.

With plenty of ventilation, there is absolutely no risk to your wife or your baby for her to paint the nursery. If you want to play it safe, then offer to take over the painting every 20 minutes or so, so that she can go outside and get some fresh air for a few minutes.

I will strongly advise your wife not to do it. Many paints have too much toxins in them ,especially some that the companies didn't list them as harmful for pregnant women/fetus.

When you breathe in the toxins(and it doesn't matter if the ventilation is good or not, the paint particles will get into your system), they stay in your fat tissues for a very long time and you don't know which one will be affecting the fetus. once I stayed in a church sanctuary to practice the organ, they were painting the sanctuary. I was there for about 2 hours and I got sick for more than two weeks. I wasn't even doing the painting!! Tell your wife, not painting the nursery is the first best thing she can do for the baby.

those of you who said it's ok, I am sorry that you are very very wrong!!!! It's a risk that we can't see.

It is safe for her to paint the only time they say it is not safe is if she was exposed to paint fumes on a normal basis (ex: if she were to paint for a living). I painted my daughters room when I was pregnant I just wore a mask just to be safe and had the windows open. The lead based paint is usually only in pretty old houses not to mention it shouldn't be necessary to remove the old paint, but if you feel you need to you can always do that part and let her do the painting afterwords.

As long as it is Latex paint there should not be any problem. Just don't let her climb up on any ladders to reach areas to paint! I would worry more about her falling than I would the paint!
If you would like to be on the safe side you could call your doctor and ask them what their recommendation is. I am sure they would be happy to answer you.
Blessings ( and Congratulations on the baby!)

Yeah, she should be fine. That was usually in reference to the older types of paint. Paint nowadays if fine for pregnant women. If you are worried, you can make sure the room is well ventilated, a fan or open door/window will do.

I wouldn't if it were me.
There are so many subtle fumes you inhale painting, regardless of the label and/or ventilation. Why take a chance on an obviously avoidable dilemma?that could cause the fetus trouble? Better safe than sorry is a cliche borne of truth. oh.. congrats on new arrival!

As long as there is plenty of ventilation And she isn't lifting or stretching I think its fine. It would also depend on on far along she is. I would wear ma mask to be safe. If she feels sick at all she need to Quit . Just be careful.

yes as long as she is in veneration.....I would also wear gloves so that she doesn't have to use thinner to clean up after. I painted all of my kids rooms and my now 13 yr old is smart as ever with a 102 in math, so no harm done.

Just get a face mask for her to wear if you are worried/

But that should only be necessary while removing the old paint, and everyone should wear one for that if they don't know what is in the paint they are removing

To be on the safe side...why don't you just paint it for her?
