You actually use less electricity to surf the net than to run programs. Surfing is not demanding on your CPU, hard drive or video card for the most part where as playing a game or loading large files are and therefore use more electricity. So, surf away!!!

We are so far gone as a planet that your computer use is not even relavent. So you can continue to consume...aw, crap. Just pay attention to the stuff you buy. Don't pay for individually packaged stuff, juice boxes, microwavable junk...I know you stopped listeneing to me but you need to cut the 6 pac plastic up into pieces because tiny animals will probably die a slow and terrible death in it later. Have a good weekend!

IMHO: That depend on why you surf the net. If is without any purpouse... YES IT IS WASTED! If you get answers for your questions and resolve others problems.. then it is not a waste.

Yes, if you are using internet from pc then it uses up power.
If you are using internet from phone than it uses up battery power.

computers use a considerable amount of power, but it still doesn't compare to a refrigerator or most climate control. just off the top of my head.
