There are hundreds of circuits on a motherboard which could be damaged without actually damaging the CPU. You could damage a circuit which supports CPU operation and THINK it's the CPU that's damaged. If your motherboard came preloaded with a bios, then chances are the bios has a program built in that tests the board for you. Try the bios. If the bios doesn't test it, then look around for a bios that does.

I wonder what you did. Damage to a motherboard does sometimes harm the CPU as well but not always. The only way to check your processor would be to find a pal with a computer using the same procesor and swap them.
