Is the music of violin nice? I had heard it and thought it was awful but I don't think it is if I were listen to a professional. I am 26 and don't know if I should start violin. I had completed piano Grade 8 and Zither(Guzheng) Grade7. Well, how does Violin sound like?

Unlike some other instruments, it's not hard to get a noise out of a violin. Unfortunately, it often takes a long time for the noise to sound good.

If you want an idea of how a well-played violin sounds, try to find some music performed by Itzhak Perlman; he's generally considered the best currently living concert violinist.

One thing to consider about playing violin is the fact that unlike other instruments like winds and the piano you have to find exactly the right place to put your left fingers to hit the note on tune. You aren't given keys that will make the same noise regardless of where you hit them, so if you don't have a very good pitch sense you'll never sound great. And unlike other instruments like the guitar or piano [again], for the most part you'll only play one note at once [occasionally two; three or more requires sweeping the bow over the strings and due to the formation of the bridge you can't simultaneously cause more than two tones to sound]. If you enjoy more harmony and chords, playing a violin by yourself probably won't seem as fulfilling.

The violin is nice if the player learns how to play well. You can play classical music, just like you played on the piano. Just about anything you play on piano you can play on the violin , only you play the melody line if you are playing solo. Or you may play parts with other people playing other parts. You can also play the violin along with an accompanyment tape or someone playing the piano. If you learn to play correctly and have a good quality instrument you should be able to produce a nice sound.

Find a recording of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, played by a professional (ask in a musical instrument shop or recorded music store), then decide if it sounds "awful" to you.

There's no accounting for taste.

It will definitely be one of the best sounding instruments once you've mastered it because it can capture almost all the emotions known to man. For me personally, it ranks second to piano.

Want a good example of violin sound? Listen to a strings orchestra rendition of "Canon" by Johann Pachelbel.

By the way, my third choice is the guitar.

it's good that you wanna start something new and that you also had piano lessons. i did too, and they really helped me since i knew the notes. if you think you can go through practicing and working on it, you could try the violin. you have to practice pretty much every or every other day though. it takes a lot of work.
