One time at Band Camp we were smoking the grass and got caught and then they punished us. We were caught because they smelled the grass burning, but not when we cut it with a cigar.

plants stay alive based on their ability to control loss of moisture from their leaves and stems.when you cut grass you force the release of whatever fluids-all smells derive from liquid molecules in fluid or gaseous state-are contained in the plants.ergo the smell.
or because you mostly stack cut grass, silaging starts immediately.this is the breakdown of plant tissue in reduced oxygen flow states.really, just Hay Making.
