If you are having trouble detecting the Hard Disk then see the foll steps, else jump to #4.
1. Your bus should have a free slot coz u need to plug in that hard drive. (Assuming that the HD is not an external USB one. If thats the case then all u need is a free USB port)
If you haven't got a free slot, then you can unplug a cd/dvd drive to plug in the hd.
2. Jumper settings.
I would suggest that you make the HD which has the OS the master and other drives as slave. The HD will have a specific jumper setting for the master / slave configuration. If you do not have jumpers then u will have to ask the h/w vendor (u will get this for free)
3. BIOS settings
Make sure that the Bus which you have plugged the HD into is enabled. ie The new HD should show up in BIOS.
4. Boot the PC
Open the disk management wizard.
a. Rt click on my computer -> manage -> disk management
b. Go to Run -> type compmgmt.msc
(Assuming you run windows OS. If its linux then you will have to manually mount it by making an entry in fstab)
At first you might be prompted to initialize the hard disk.
After that you can format it and divide it into any number of partitions you want.
You are ready to transfer data on to your new disk!!
HTH :)

if you are trying to install a secomd physical drive in a standard PC then I assume you have an IDE drive? you need to connect the second drive to the motherboard with the ribon cable provided, there will be a slot on the board for IDE drive connections, or you can connect two drives on the same cable if you have the correct cable.
you will probably need to set the jumpers, the little connections and a small clip to make the second drive work as a slave. (there is usually a diagram on the disk drive to show where to put the clip)
you may also need to enter th bios, usually by pressing DEL when the PC starts up and then setting the drive options in the BIOS.

Have you already bought a new drive. If not the easiest way to get extra storage is a USB hard drive. Really huge hard drives are now available and only need plugging in to a spare USB port. The other advantage with this is that you can transfer data between two PC's. If you already have the hard drive then follow barefoot's advice above Good Luck.

you do not need a partition program at all. you just need to set the new drive as a slave and plug it into the middle part of the ide cable of the first drive or as either master or slave on a cable plugged into the secondary ide slot on your motherboard
