all of these people are right, stars are very far away, but here is something interesting to think about too. stars are light years away. light travels at 186,000 miles a second, thats pretty fast. so a star that is lets just say 25 light years away, the light from this star takes 25 years to reach us. so when you look up into the sky you are looking into the past. you are seeing stars the way they used to be. if one of these stars explodes you wont see it till years afterwards. pretty neat huh!!! same thing with the sun, if the sun exploded, we wouldnt see it till eight minutes later. so as you can see stars are very very far away!!!!

think of yourself in an aeroplane looking down on a single houseyou most probably wont be able to see much. now think of yourself on earth lol, looking up at the nearest sun next to ours, it bright but it a hell of a lot of light years awaycan you imagine traveling to our nearest galaxy whice is 2.2 million light years away. thats travelling at the speed of light for 2.2 million years and thats how long it takes the light from this gallaxy to get to us. for all we know the galaxy does not exist any more. think again about the other 500 million or so galaxys in our universe that we know about. its big isnt it??? the stars that we look at in the sky are mostly in our galaxy the milkyway, and even these stars are so far away that they look so tiny. just thought id give you a little insight into what is out there. see ya

Because they are so far away, our nearest star looks large (the sun) but the next nearest star is over a light-year away. One Light year is 5.879 trillion miles.
