I disagree with teh otehr answers - books and stories are adapted into films all the time, it's got nothing to do with how long the story/book has been around.

The reason it probably hasn't been adapted into a successful film is because a big budget version has never been made. And also because as a story there isn't enough material to go on to base a film on.

Perhaps because sometimes a classic story is challenging to make into a best selling movie that appeals to everyone. You know the old saying that "the book was better than the movie"
Another example is Nancy Drew books, they are best sellers but the TV show and movie tanked.
I don't know the magic formula for success in transitioning from literature to film.

Hmmm, I never watched the film, but I read the story. Maybe there are missing parts from the story in the movie. Just like in Harry Potter, there are lots of missing parts in the film, the book is more detailed.

I think its because when u read it to a child u change ur voice when u say "Grandma what big eyes u have" and the wolf replies "all the better to see u with" and so on. The child gets excited because it knows u are going to say "All the better to eat u with!!" in a louder deeper voice which makes them giggle time after time. You cant get this effect with the film.
Its also quite a short story.

What film are you talking about? Disney never did one, but Neil Jordan directed a horror version called 'In the Company of Wolves', which obviously wasn't aimed at the same target audience...

Maybe because the story was around for about 6 hundred years? And all the countries have it's own version?

Because the story involves your own imagination, so everyone's personal version is different. Put it in film and it will never compare with the fantastic possibilties capable in the imagination.
