I have a canvas messenger bag and it has got very soft over time, is there anyway to make it more firm and rigid again? as its a really nice bag, but so irritating that it does not hold its shape properly now.

You want a permanent fix, so any sort of laundry treatment you might do will be only temporary.

Buy some Polyurethane liquid adhesive that is in a squeeze bottle and with a wet rag or wet sponge, apply it to the BACKSIDE of the bag. It will stiffen the canvas and give it new life and it will also be flexible and remain in tack as long as you own the bag.

You can buy poly adhesive in any hardware store or Lowes, Home Depot, Menards.

I was thinking two things. One, since it's made of canvas, maybe you can use actual canvas jesso. It's a material that artists put on a canvas and it dries to make it stiff. I am unsure if they make a clear jesso and it's pretty thick. How about starch? Give it a bath in liquid starch, rinse a bit and let it dry. I don't think it could hurt. Just some suggestions. Good luck! :)

you can prepare starch and soak and let it dry for over night to the shape you needed by packing papers in it
