Well, they're certainly in a good position to do that, even after the "Curse of the Bay" (Golden State Warriors) They got tuned up pretty good last night. I watched the whole thing on the NBA league pass. It gave me nightmares. But enough about that, here's what needs to happen for the Mavs to win it.
1. Back to basics- What got them where they are right now? Offense? Defense? A little bit of both? They have to "stick to the script"
2. Big 3, where are you? Jet Terry, J-Ho, and of course Dirk they didn't show up in Golden State. Maybe they were stuck in traffic on the Golden Gate bridge, I don't know but they didn't show up. Jet needs to get the other role players more involved by distributing the ball more and trusting that they can make the open jumpers.
3. More than just "D"- Devin Harris is on the cusp of being something special, a-la Tony Parker and or Leandro Barbosa. He's got the speed to keep up with them, but he has to do more than rely on penetrating to the basket every time. His mid-range and outside shooting needs to improve in order for him to mentioned with the 2 I just named. He made the difference last year when the Mavs beat the Spurs in that thrilling 7-game series, he'll need to do something more to top that.
4. Bench Press- Jerry Stackhouse provides instant offense (as always) but Devean George and Austin Croshere needs to look for quality shots to boost their scoring output to help out Stack.
5. No Biggie- Erick Dampier and Desagna Diop are mainly used for defense. The points they get will be important down the stretch becuase although the Mavs are a excellent perimeter team, they need an insde presence besides Dirk that will keep defenses from doubling him.
6. The Future- Pops Mensah Bonsu and Jose Barrea may actually become the wild card in all this. If Devin Harris continues to make costly mistakes, it will force Avery's hand and play the rookie. And as for Pops, he's shown flashes why he excelled in the D-league. He could be called on to try to defend the more athletic forwards like Amare Stoudemire if the Mavs decide not to pick up an extra forward/center with their empty reoster spot.
The Mavs definitely have their work cut out for them, but with the "Little General" running the show, you can expect that come playoff time, the Mavs will be READY.

theyre definitely playing like a team that will win the championship.
last season they made the finals, were leading against the heat and then dropped 4 straight games to lose in the finals. i think the ghosts of playoffs past may work to a positive or negative effect on this team.
lets not forget that the west is very strong and in a 7 game series anything can happen. we cant forget the offensive powers of the Phonix Suns, nor can we forget the defensive mind set of the San Antonio Spurs. the pressure it no doubt on the Mavs to win it all....especially with the season theyre having.
but as stated, who knows what could happen. if they draw first round with the Warriors, who knows!!! this is a team that although arent performing well, have beat the Mavs twice this season....theyre beatable...but over 7 games....thats another question

I'd say right now that it will be either them or the suns. I think detriot will win the east, but get murdered by whoever comes out of the west.
March madness starts in 2 days, why are you worrying about NBA?

One thing for sure there going to have to beat the team they beat last year which is the Spurs and than play the team that beat them last year which is the Heat. But I think the Spurs would take care of them this year before they play a rematch with the HEAT. This years prediction is HEAT-Spurs!

I think it's definately their year. I'm a huge Suns fan, but I gotta say, I think the Mavs have the drive this year that's needed to win. But I'll always hold out hope for my #1 team....Go Hornets!!!! (I'm from OKC, so my first chance to have the NBA in our city, we all have hope here!)
