Boy, so many answers and not one correct. The first one gives instructions with a router when the asker plainly states there is not one.

These are the physical connections.

Wall -> Modem -> Computer #1 Ethernet card #1 -> Computer #1 Ethernet Card #2 -> Computer #2

Set Computer #1 Ethernet card #2 IP Address to something like 192.168.2.1. Subnet to 255.255.255.0
Set Computer #2 Ethernet card IP Address to something like 192.168.2.2, Subnet 255.255.255.0

Now on computer #1 enable ICS and then goto the network connections and now you must bridge the two network cards in computer #1 together. Just right click on one of the network connections and select Bridge connection and pick the second network connection to bridge to.

That should be it. I am also assuming the first computer already has internet accrss that is why I did not tell you how to configure the first ethernet card in computer #1.

Connect 2 ethernet card to one PC and one to the other. (Assuming your motherboards do not have ethernet connection)
Connect the first PC to the internet. Connect the other PC card of the first PC to the second PC with a crossover cable make from the twisted 5.
Then set up internet connection sharing for the 2 PCs. Go to help in XP and type Internet connection sharing. You may need to run network connection wizard to do that.

Connect 1 PC to the DSL router using whatever connection technology is needed by the router.

Put an ethernet into both PCs (that may be an extra ethernet in te one with the router). You need a crossover ethernt cable to connect them both... or you need 2 ethernet cables and the cheapest hub you can buy.

Then look up Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) in help... it explains how to configure a shared internet connection.
