The five steps of great skin care are: cleanse, exfoliate, tone, moisturize, and protect. These should be done daily. There is a large difference though between types of exfoliants and only very gentle ones should be used on the face.

Mary Kay offers the TimeWise skincare line which combines these 5 steps into 3. The 3 in 1 cleanser does the cleansing, exfoliating, and toning. Then there is the moisturizer and finally foundation to protect the skin.

A deep exfoliating product like the Mary Kay Microdermabrasion set should only be used once or twice a week.

I hope that helps a bit.

How often depends on your skin and how it reacts to the scrubbing. Too much can be irritating. If you want to try a scrub, start with once a week. Do it gently at first. Your skin will tell you how to proceed. If it gets red and irritated, you know you're overdoing it and you can go slower. If your skin seems to like it, do it twice a week, or more. I use a very gentle scrub every morning with no problems. Of course 'exfoliating' doesn't just mean scrub, it can be an AHA (alpha hydroxy acid), meaning it exfoliates the top layer of cells gently, over time. I use an AHA lotion every night with great result; it makes my skin so smooth and glowy. Also, those 'home peels' exfoliate too.

After you cleanse your face, you should "exfoliate." This is very much like the process of peeling an onion or removing tiles from a roof. Exfoliating is necessary for getting the blood flowing into the face, as well as for removing grime.

Take a packet of sugar (raw sugar works the best), add a couple drops of olive oil to create a spreading condition, then gently rub it into the creases of your face.

Open a packet of instant oatmeal, mix it with water and create a paste. Rub this mixture into your face, then rinse off the residue.
Suggestion: Use instant oatmeal on your face, while using the traditional "old-fashioned" oatmeal to exfoliate the entire body.

Rub sea salt (available in health food sotres) all over both your body and your face. You'll love its invigorating effects

You should wash your face daily with a mild cleanser such as Cetaphil. Exfoliating means removing dead skin cells from the skin. I would recommend using St. Ives Apricot scrub a few times a week in place of the Cetaphil. However it is gentle on the skin so it's really up to you how often you use it. Both products are available at most grocery stores and drug stores.

You should exfoliate your face once a week, this will help cell renewal and keep skin plump. Exfoliating is removing the top layer of dead skin cells that will be replaced my new fresh cells. light exfoliation is best for the face in circular movements.

I suggest a mask once a week and exfoliate at least twice.
It helps cell turnover and keep skin clear of black heads and daily grime.

Once you work this in to your regime you will notice how your skin glows.
