You have no choice but to go live in the projects. What changes to your new home would you want made, and what would you want others to understand? I know it is hard for the very proud to imagine themselves in this mess, but try.

a disability that affects your ability to support yourself. Not necessarily a cripple but and injury severe enough to make it difficult enough for you that you might have to go into academics - which not for everyone to be fair - and at any rate it would take a very long time..

As for the changes - not accomodations changes to your atmosphere, dignity, safety, standard of living. What is 'your' home like now and how does it compare to the projects? What reasonalbe request would you have? What would help someone in your plight get throught the next few years.

This question is not about the disability - it is about the circumstances in which you find yourself - the poverty, and how to cope with that.

How to keep your dignity while experiencing terrible predjudice the poor must live with, and the harsher living conditions, public opinon about you and 'your kind'.

It's happened to me, my back was injured and I became disabled. But fortunately I was able to recover and get a job at the same time.

Sorry, but not sure whats the projects, but here's some experience I had that I hope might be of use to anyone reading this.

Make my home disable friendly by:
- making sure I am living on a lift landing floor (if I am on a high rise building).
- Toilets to have handles and non slip mats
- Have a call bell just in case of emergency or when you need help.
- have ramps for you to access if you are wheel chair bound
- rewire the light switches to be at the same level of a wheel chaired person.
- Place railings near vital areas of the home for easy support when moving around.

Cant think of much more... So hope this is enough. By the way becoming disabled from an abled body person can be very taxing on the mind and wallet. Although these things cant be predicted, it would be best to purchase some form of insurance just in case these things does happen.

The expenses can be very costly.

what kind of disability?
loss of limbs or hearing or blindness ?
much would depend on that.
if u have your loved ones intact then nothing is ever lost.
if money is lost nothing is lost..
if health is lost something is lost....
it is our charecter and our family which should be with us till the end...
you could enroll to some postal/online course similar to one which you wanted to undertake before.
what ever the type/size of home work can always be doen to make it cheerful lively n happy.
chairs with soft cushions, couches at appropriate palces.pleasent lighting arrangement and nice environment . some light cheerful music to take you off the depressed mood when you are not busy.
n try to occupy yourself so that you think less abt what you lost n more about the things you can actually do.
best luck.

if i was crippled I'd put a gun in my mouth and blow my brains out. I've lived in shitty neighborhoods when I was younger, that wouldnt bother me. But I would rather die than be a cripple.
