The strings are near enough silent - just a light twangy noise. Plug the headphones into the amp and you'll be fine.

well it depends on a lot of factors

you can pretty much get a guitar as loud as you want or as soft as you want when you have an electric guitar not pluged into an amp its nothing more then a light twangy noise

but your going to want it louder then that if your just starting out id recomend a practice amp you can get a 10 or 15 watt amp that will produce a minimal sound you actually wont be able to get the sound to your neighbors the amps are just loud enough to fill up a small room

i wouldnt be worried about blasting your neighbors if you get less then even a 50 watt amp they still wont be able to hear you

and volume controls dont always go quite on bigger amps though once you get over a 100 watt amp you can etheir have your amp really really loud or really really quite i no cause ive played with a bunch of diffrent amps and once you move the knob ppast 2 theres a jump in the volume

but dont worry about it bro they wont hear you

playing guitar was the best decision i made man might i strongly recomend you pick it up

Use headphones in your practice amp and you'll be fine. If the guitar is a hollow-body semi-acoustic, you can still make a bit of a noise without an amp. But watch for your neighbour's car heading down the driveway then crank it up and give it the message!!

Deep Purple were the loudest band in the world according to the Guinness Book of Records, they could play concerts and be heard over 10 miles away.
On the amp there is a volume control that will control the signal level going to the headphones, so you don't burst your eardrums.

Mate, if you ever want to cut it as a guitarist, you have to be a bit more rock'n'roll with your outlook.....

Imagine where would the world be now if Jimi Hendrix, Alice Cooper, Pete Townsend, Ian Gillan or John Paul Jones had worried about the neighbours?

The neighbours will let you know in good time if you're making too much noise. At which point, you smile politely, thrust half a pint of whiskey in their hand and then go round theirs to sh*g their daughter.

.....and remember.......amps have volume buttons. They go up to 11. You choose the volume.

Use an air guitar to practise until you're confident that you're good enough to be proud of playing in public.

Seriously though, not loud at all is the truthful answer, have fun!

When wearing headphones, you won't be able to bother the neighbors even if you try...unless of course you jump around and make a lot of noise that way. I'll stop over with my amp later (it goes to 11) and we'll blow their doors off.

The electric guitar itself barely makes any noise at all when strummed either unplugged or when using headphones.

In fact acoustic guitars are louder by a lot.

The strings themselves will sound like an acoustic guitar. Pluck them when it's not turned on and that's how loud they will be to everyone else.
