When I was at primary school we use to sing a song in class . I can only remember a little. It goes " Im on my way to where the air is clear, im gunna meet a little girl in Kingston town"

Thanks so much, ive been looking for this song for so long. I didnt even think to do a search on it. Not really sure if it would of mattered though as what I thought were the lyrics wern't actually even in the song. Im very glad you knew what I ment though. Thank-you.

It's called "Kingston Town", done most popularly by Harry Belafonte. See the below link for lyrics.

Actually, the title of the song is Jamaica Farewell, not Kingston Town.

Here's the first verse and chorus. Funny, my dad used to sing this when I was little too.


Down the way where the nights are gay
and the sun shines brightly on the mountain top
I took a tip on a sailing ship
and when I hit Jamaica I made a stop.

Well I'm sad to say, I'm on my way
Won't be back for many a day
My heart is down, my head is turning around
