The English people you have not met are not all mean, nasty and greedy. I am sure that in the rest of the world, there are people in most countries who are mean, nasty and greedy. It is not fair to state that the English are always "the meanest, nastiest and greediest", just as you should not say that "all children are yobs" - it is just not true. The "bad" minority are always remembered and give the majority a bad name. I do not know which country you are from, but I urge you to think carefully before making such judgemental and unfair statements.

I am an expat from the UK, not mean always give a tip when eating out in foreign destinations, wouldn't know if I were greedy, not for me to say. It used to take forever to save up for the air ticket, hence savoured the sights when I finally arrived in my chosen destination, think the English are very polite when overseas, some people are so very full of pride no matter where they go, very boastful and make a point of looking down on everyone else, to the extent that it must be painful to have to exert that amount of effort in order to "assimilate", and they are not necessarily English.

Bob, You travel for your work - but not far from the sound of it. I have travelled round the world a number of times have lived in a number of countries and worked in over 40.
Whilst Brits can be a bit that way it depends where they come from. I found the Scots tend to be the worst in Britain for that sort of attitude.
As for the world the worst I found were Australians, closely followed by Americans.
It is a sad fact that if you see drugged up, drunken louts abroad they are inevitably British and all the rude and crude T shirts and stuff are always in English.
But take a look around you - for I am sure you yourself are a Brit - Britain has the most charities and is involved in far more charitable work abroad than any other country. There are far more Brits involved and working with other countries in their development plans than most other countries.
Having said all that I retired early, sold a nice house in a lovely part of England and moved abroad. Mainly for the all year round sun and good weather but also for the bonus of the fact that Britain is so over priced and over taxed that I live far more comfortably for a third of the cost!!!

I'm sorry...but that is a rash generalisation...I'm Canadian...living in England and I have for the past four years. The English are blunt...which many people mistake as rude...however...the friends I have here are so loyal and they will tell you if you're making an *** of yourself. They won't talk about you behind your back. The English tell you how it is. Just because you're not used to the English culture it doesn't give you the right to generalise. Also...remember, Everybody is different...so generalising anyone by where they are from, or what they look like, how they speak...it's racism!

Oh my goodness, just where did you meet these nasty English people? Its comments like these that start riots.I feel sorry for you if you haven't had the chance to meet any nice English people.I wonder if you feel this way about all nationalities?Maybe you should take a good look at yourself and ask is it something to do with you that people react this way toward you.Why tar everyone with the same brush. We are a very tolerant country,if we weren't, why are so many people wishing to come to live here.I just feel very sorry for you.

is that really true? or are you just being ironic? i have to say that when i have been on holiday, it seem to me that the English are the only people i have met who have manners. i have found the french to be nasty and the Germans to be mean. greedy, well, that has to be American children 12 and over. i found the Turks to be the happiest and the Egyptians the most snobbish. but this is just my impressions. perhaps you have had the misfortune to bump into some really horrible English people. or could it be that you are a Scot, and therefor have an historical hatred toward the English

Hi Bob-M, I think you must have done something to upset the ones you met. The English will always treat someone the way the person treats them. We live by the saying "treat others the way you would like to be treated", so we assume if someone is rude, greedy and nasty to us, that's how they wish to be treated. Hope this answers your question.
