I don't know exactly how many different kinds of bat live in the Omaha, Nebraska area but I am interested in knowing how many out of how many are likely to carry rabies. My guy is deathly scared of them. Just Curious.

Bats can get the rabies virus, but the incidence of bats and rabies is very low, usually only about one half of one percent of bats tested, test positive for the virus.

The percentage of bats that carry rabies in the U.S. is about .5%. Not all bats are rabid...because if they were there wouldnt be any bats. Bats suffer the effects of rabies and it will eventually kill them. The is a whole section in the link that explains all about the chance of getting rabies from a bat.

particular they do. Bats carry rabies, properly a very small % of them. yet they do no longer teach indications of it so that's difficult to tell if the bat has it. yet as long as no person has been bitten each element must be nice. Bats tend to leave human beings on my own, they are only after the bugs.
