i do, amoungst other piercings, it will take roughly 2 weeks until you can have the jewellery changed to a shorter length, meantime, after you eat, rinse with listerine and bathe the outside with a solution made from half a pint of boiling water with half a tsp of ROCK or SEA salt, allow it to cool and bathe frequently, this will heal the outside a treat, solution will keep covered and refridgerated for 24 hrs, after that make fresh, i have used this for all my piercings and is better by far than any shop bought solutions, my piercer recommends nothing else, relax, look after it and enjoy your new jewellery, good luck

No but i did have my top lip pierced some years ago...

Mine became infected, and really swelled up. After some anti-biotics, it took about 4weeks to fully heal.

I got it done in the piercing parlour in Selfridges, and they have their own rinse to use, and mouthwash.... but for my navel piercing I was advised to just cleanse it daily with Savlon Antiseptic Wound Wash... which was brought from Superdrugs for a couple quid. It comes in an easy spray, and just use a cotton wool to wipe away any excess liquid.

i got mine done about 2 years ago.
it took about 2 weeks (i think) to heal and when I got mine my piercer told me to rinse my mouth with some listerine mouthwash or something equally strong.
otherwise just keep the area on the outside of it clean with rubbing alcohol (it wont hurt)
BTW I was told not to take the piercing out for more than 2 hours. just thought you should know. :)

If your piercer didnt give you any aftercare instructions then they obviously were not a good piercer and I'd be worried about infection
