I want to move to a different location, but I'm kind of scared. Currently I live in Omaha, NE. I've been here every since I was 18 and I'm 31 now. (the military relocated me and I separated and stayed) My family lives on the west coast and want me to move back home. I'm established here. I got a job, house and friends. However, I'm close to getting my graduate degree in information technology. I really want to move, but I'm frightened at the same time. I guess I'm scared to start my life over again. I'm afraid that I'll move and it will end up being a big mistake. Should I stay in my comfort zone here, or move back home? I really like the cost of living here a lot, Oregon, Washington, and Califormia are expensive places to live. However, it would be nice to be closer to family and the atmosphere is so beautiful in those states. I just don't want to fail, and have any regrets. Is this a normal fear? Should I just sell the house and move when the time comes, and get it over with?

Why are people so rude on here tonight. My question is for people that have had the same experience to give me an opinion. Try to find the MOVING PLAN section on Y!A, DUH!

i apologies on behalf of all the people who were rude. i was planning on being rude because i didn't want to read all of what you wrote. after all in P&S we are used to reading one sentence questions.

but i read your question anyway. i've never moved until 26, and i only moves few miles away from home.

it was hell for a while. i missed all the comforts that i had back at home. but now i'm seeing the advatages of moving to a different place (even though its few miles away)

what i have to say is, don't do it if you are unfocatable, think about it twice. there's always positive and a negative side to everything.

you'll never no if you don't try things out. so think about it long and hard.

I'm sharing the same feelings as you! You see, I'll be moving to another city to work in 2 days time. I'm just 22 and I've never been away from my family before. I've always had them to run back to during bad times. I'm feeling all that you're feeling, frightened that I'm making the wrong move and such. Then again, maybe this will be a new beginning. Just try it out and see how far it goes...I love my family, but I guess everyone has to leave some time in their lives.

Here's a toast to everyone moving away!

well i wont be rude! im having the same feelings because i am SURE there is nothing for me here and i should move and im only going 120 to over 300 mi away. i too have a fear of failure, and thats cool, im moving so i can start going to school for information technology too! cool! but anyway, i think its a normal thing, because who wants to move away from what they know is certain? do like me and move anyway. i cant tell you when, but if you want to move do it. just be sure to have money saved up to fall back on. and since you have a house it shouldnt be that hard. good luck!

The fear is normal. Its not easy to start your life anew..from a scratch that too in a different city...but i guess you can do well if you try hard enough and you'll have your family around so it should not be that tough but dont just pack up and leave, you should have that safety valve in case things dont work out the way you would want them to.

Heck change is the only constant in life. I've thought about moving several thousand miles, this will be O.K. You will still see your families, but might win the contest of who lives the furthest away at your high school reunion!
Go for it!

everyone has fear of relocating. only do it if your sure about it. if your married you should include your wife and kids in it. i don't think I could give up my home and taking a chance on Calif. earth quakes. Forrest fires. good luck in your choice.

My motto in life is "nothing ventured, nothing gained". It sounds like you want to move, so just do it. Go on, go home.
