Thats 1.883 mb/s
Almost 2mb/s thats not bad
Obviously this is broadband cable...So at peak user times your going to experience slower speeds.

Hello,
(ANS) There has been a great deal of confusion with DSL MAX broadband because ISP's dont tell you the whole story about the product (service). But they are keen for customers and so blind people with technical rubbish or clever marketing words.
**BT's Rate Adaptive broadband service (DSL MAX) has a maximum sychronisation speed from your house to the nearest BT phone exchange of 8megs. That doesnt mean you will get 8megs though.
**Max DSL is a technically complex internet connection product its NOT like previous versions of broadband. Which were a fixed speed.
**Max DSL adapts its speed & performance to your line conditions, & so because everyone has different line conditions so the speed of the resulting broadband service varies too.
**With Max DSL line length (i.e. distance from the exchange) is important as the longer the line length generally the slower the service becomes as you get further away from the exchange.
**Line noise is another factor that strongly influences the performance of your broadband service. The higher the noise levels generally the poorer the quality of the connection, in some cases the connection can even drop or loose sync as a result of noise levels.
**Its hard to tell you if you lived along way out from your nearest BT exchange then 1.8megs could be OK. But if your 1.5k away that would be awefull.

you're absolutely correct about 1mb = 1,000kb (actual it's 1,024kb)
are you sure your provider promised you 8mb? that's pretty fast there, very extremely fast, but you only get less than 2mb? that's 1/4 of what you been promised. Get second or third opinions with diff sites to see how much they come up with, like http://speedtest.net or http://dslreports.com.
I have a tip to tweak your computer to help internet runs faster. Here's how: Click Start >> Run >> type gpedit.msc , then hit Enter. Once the Group Policy is open, click the + sign next to the Administrative Template within the Computer configuration session, click + sign next to Network, double click on QoS Packet Schedule (do not click + this time), on the right box, double click Limit reservable bandwidth, click Enable, change 20% to 0%, then OK to exit, close down the window, restart your computer. Your internet should be fast now.
Try to test the speed again, see if you can see any improvement.

yes your correct, 1000kbps (kilobites per second - 1mbps (megabyte per second)
contact your provider, especially since it sounds like you should have extra band width.
mine is 2.2 mbps

Your ISP will only say up TO 8 meg. They never guarantee it.
its a good marketing ploy.
