Malaysian Chinese, Malay, Asli, Indian, Iban, Bidayuh, Penan, Kadazan, Murut, Rungus...? there are so many Malaysian ethnic entities that make up Malaysia, and food is soooooo terribly varied, really, you can travel for a year and eat every day a new speciality. Some ethnic entities like it hot and spicy, especially the Malays and especially towards the north, where the cooking is heavily influenced by Thailand. The Chinese usually don't prepare very spicy food, but there are some specialities that might surprise an unsuspecting palate. The Indians... you should know! And in Borneo the indigenous people prefer simple dishes but especially in Sabah spicy hot chilli is a must on every table!

As a Malaysian myself I feel it is my duty to say this: we LOVE spicy food. We even have spicy chicken in KFC, spicy burgers in McDonald's and spicy pizza all over the place. Don't underestimate Malaysians' tongue. If you're cooking, just add as much chilli as you like. Be careful, about the taste, though. We are rather tough food critics.

Depends. If I want something savoury, it must be spicy to some extent to be satisfying. But if I want something sweet, spicyness is a BIG turn-off for me.
