However, it was not. So it did not affect our evolution. Although, having said that, the thumb being on the other side of the hand would have resulted in a different structure in the hand and the tools that humans use.

We hit the space bar with out index fingers? With such a small difference, which I don't think would affect our ability to grasp things, I doubt there would be any significant change in our evolution. It would also affect the way many of us view movie ratings.

You can "what if" questions all day, every day of the year and it won't make you any smarter.
Now get back in there and ask a real question.
or you can refrase the "what if" Question like this;
I was born with my thumbs on the other side of my hands, what effect will it have on my childern and other generations who are born like me?
