I am about to move to a property with exeptional views the windows need replacing and we would like to install doors and balcony's on the first floor - as a diy project.

Check with your local authority first - they can advise you as to the regulations in force plus anything else you may need to know - and that way, it's free ! ! !

You MAY need planning permission, and you may be limited to a balconette, rather than a balcony. You will need to comply with Building Regs too. FENSA-registered window/door companies deal with Part (L? / F?) or you can DIY if you let building control look at the work. Fee(s) are usually around the 100-200 pound mark.

Certainly call the Building control/Planning people. But talk to your neighbours-to-be first, both as a courtesy, and to see what they would be happy with.

Yes you need permission as you will be able to look down over your neighbours property.

you will need planning permition, they want your money, as you are altering the look of the property, if you are in the middle of noware and no immediate neighbours and not facing a road and its on the back of the property you will be ok.
