Publishing photos in a book ?

If an author writes a book and is recommending brand name products, can they use photos of those products in the book?

Could they use stock photos from the company or do they have to take their own?

You need to write to the company for permission. Tell them what picture you want to publish and for what purpose. I think normally, it's pretty easy to get a 'yes'.
