have you tried listening for the problem with the car parked, transmission in neutral - at the same RPM range ? This will separate out engine issues from wheel, suspension and body rattles. Open the hood and bring up engine RPMs until you get to the top end of the range you mentioned. You should be able to pinpoint the source easily. Look for wiring harnesses, hoses that are near body sheet metal. You didn't say what year model or make your car is, but if it has a carburetor, check to make sure that air cleaner is securely fastened down, and that any air feed tubes, etc are correctly connected. These are the kind of things that rattle at higher RPMs...

Good luck, and happy hunting...!

sometimes you can get a rattling sound from the Catalyctic Convertor heat shield. The area around the hold down screws 'rust out' and makes the shield come loose from the convertor and allows the shield to rattle.Take the car to a mffler repair shop and they will check it out for free.Sounds can 'echo' and give off noise to another area.

Try to take it to a trust worthy garage to have it checked out.
It could be dangerous, and the problem might be small now and
less expensive to fix. (maybe a
just a loose brace, or carbon
build up. Have you changed your gas filter lately?)
