Like Ghost said, they just think they are good.
See some facts:
1) Current ICC ranking Top 10 Bowlers - None from India
2) Current ICC ranking Top 10 All rounders - None from India
3) Best ever Batting Ranking Top 20 - None from India
4) Best ever Bowler Ranking Top 20 - None from India
5) Both ODI & Test Team rankings - India has never been in Top 3 teams for last 9 years.
6) To date, India has won only 36% ODI's away from home which is only better than Bangladesh in test teams. 20% vs. Australia, 16% vs. SA, 25% vs. WI, 32% vs. SL.
7) India has played 194 tests away from home, winning only 27 of them which is only better than Bangladesh.
8) In last 8 years, India has only won a single match against World Champion Australia.
The team which is not even in Top 3 teams and has a poor track record outside home and whose star players have scored against Sri Lanka & Bangladesh only, it's ridiculous the way they are getting excited about World Cup.
They all seem to have a massive inferiority complex about their team and trying to overcome that with media propaganda about their chances to win World cup.
I am not against India or anyone but just a realistic cricket fan.

Indians have a much better side in terms of blend of experience,young blood and talent through stronger line-up with all-rounders very much like the 1983 World cup team. This makes all people very excited about India. All the best Indian Cricket team !!!!

While other countries have split interrests (Six Nations, Super 14 currently) the Indians have one, and only one sporting event to look forward to this year...
Gotta love their passion for the game though, it's very admirable.
What I don't understand, is why a country with such a massive population doesnt dominate world cricket? If a large percentage of young Indians played the game their talent pool would be 10 times that of the Ozzies or South Africans, but this is a seperate question I suppose... I'll post it soon...

Probably I'll attribute it to the undying optimism and relentless Faith Indians usually have. We tend to have that kind of attitude towards the thing we are passionate about. Unfortunately, it seems to be more or less restricted to our cricket team only.
Wolud like to see this kind of faith and dedication in other aspects of our lives too.

Do I see "green" tinge of jealousy, Kamran? Why don't you support your team that has a lot to its credit including tampering, drug abuse and religious discrimination charges?
Shahryar@ India was runners-up last WC playing away from home. How many runs did that green duck Inzy get that time?

It's part of their game play - intimidate the opponent - and why not?
I think it's great that they get behind their team whether they are a good or bad team, it goes to show that they are loyal and patriotic!
