Depending on how many kids you are going to have it might be difficult to keep all of them entertained with the same thing at the same time. Bring a bunch of pillows for them to sit on and have a bunch of books in one corner, a table with play dough (might be messy though), if you have access to a wall, it's fun to lay the kids on large pieces of paper (you can buy rolls of it) and trace the outline of their body then tape it to the wall for them to "fill in" the faces and clothing. They can roll it up and take it home with them when they are done, too. Have a bin of random magazines, cards, stuff they can cut up (with kid-safe scissors, of course) to make collages with. Throw some glitter and stickers in there and they'll be busy for hours. Macaroni jewelery aka noodles and string (cheap). Snacks are another good thing to have on hand - my kids/daycare kids love goldfish crackers and they come in fun colors now too. Give them a paper cup to decorate with their name or whatever and then they can put the crackers in them when they are done.

if you are an artist or if you know one, piece together butcherpaper to cover the whole area, have the artist or you draw an outline of a beautiful mural. Have each kid take their shoes off and color one piece, trying to stay in the lines they can use any color or colors( water based) then have them all help put up and display, it will be a huge accomplishment and be so cute and fun.

Our library did an arts and crafts with the little ones. They recycled newspapers, pipe cleaners and other items. They made paper crafts out of the items. They used their imaginations for it. It turned out really great. My children made recycled newspaper bugs, spiders, etc.
