They start at the same time on the same spot going the same direction. They both keep up a constant speed for an hour. Max does 8 laps in the hour while Julia does 24 laps in the hour.

Pls show me the working out

julia does 24 laps in an hour (24/60min), so she does 1 lap in x minutes
24/60 = 1/x
24x = 60
x = 60/24 = 2.5 minutes = 2 minutes and 30 seconds

max does 8 laps in an hour
8/60 = 1/x
8x = 60
x = 60/8 = 7.5 minutes = 7 minutes and 30 seconds

a) How many times will Julia pass Max?
well she did 24 laps and he only did 8 --- the last one she didnt pass him -- so she passed him 23-8 times
answer - 15 times

b) How many time will Julia pass Max on the spot where they started?
Julia reaches the starting pt every 2 1/2 minutes
Max reaches the starting pt every 7 1/2 minutes
since 7 1/2 is evenly divisible by 2 1/2, every time
max reaches the finish line, julia passes him -- again except for the last time which they both finish at the line
Max reaches the finish line 8 times -- 7 not counting the last one
so the answer is 7 times
at (minutes:seconds) 7:30, 15:00, 22:30, 30:00, 37:50, 45:00, and 52:50 into the race
