Salt has no cholesterol. Cholesterol is a complicated organic molecule, salt is a simple non-organic molecule.
A solution of water and salt has the ability to attract water. Your blood is such a solution. When you eat salt, it gets into your blood. Your blood gets too salty and attracts water from the tissues near the blood vessels (the phenomen is called osmosis, if you like you can search the net for that). That means that A. your tissues loose water (that is bad for them) B. your blood pressure gets higher because you have more fluid in your blood vessels, but they stay the same size, that is the main reason why it can lead to a heart attack, having a high blood pressure means your heart works under greater stress than it was designed for, and so it gives up some day and C. your kidneys have to work too much to get this salt out of your body so they are overloaded too. They don't work as efficient in removing other toxins from your blood stream and those toxins affect the ability of your body to maintain itself and prevent failiures (like a heart attack).
That doesn't mean you should stop eating salt at all, salt is important for some functions of our body, but today everything you can get at the supermarket is heavily salted, like bread, butter, ham, precooked foods like pizza and instant soups etc. If you eat those, you may not add salt to your meals and still get enough. If you eat only fresh meat, fruit/vegs, and eggs and milk, and cook them yourself, you have to add salt or you will get ill.

Salt has alot of cholesterol in it, which can clog your arteries, which will in turn raise the blood pressure more.
