the name is scottish with an anglicized spelling it is a variant of eoghan which is both irish and scottish celtic it is sometimes used as the gaelic form of eugene.

I think it depends on the spelling. Euan is welsh and Ewan is Scottish (i think!) I have the same thing with my sons name Finn one way is Scottish and another is Irish and there are Finns in both Irish and Scottish folklore.

It isn't Scottish. I know because I am Scottish, come from an entirerly Scottish family, and have some extensive knowledge on Scottish history. Perhaps you should do a name search on any one of the numerous name sites on the web.

I live in Scotland and work in a Primary school - it's a very popular name up here but more commonly spellt Ewan, only a few spellt Euan.

According to one website: thinkbabynames.com, it's Irish, but others say it's Scottish Gaelic, possibly meaning Born of the Yew tree, a variant of Ewan.
The Welsh equivalent is Iwan.
