The answer is no, for me and for many. But this is a time-warp question. And the key to the answer is in the words "democratic objectives." When you think of those words, who comes to mind? Has to be someone like Winston Churchill, long gone. Oh well, ok, JFK. Long gone. Hmmm...maybe Anna Nicole Smith had some democratic objectives, gone, and I'll bet George Clooney has them, but, would I KILL for democratic objectives, as I know them now?
I would kill to protect my children from an immediate threat, that's about it. We don't have group objectives anymore, they've been eliminated from the curriculum. We teach to the test. And that test has been carefully attuned to sensitive people with sensitive issues who only kill when they are crazed by drugs, alcohol or insanity. And they are not usually thinking on higher levels, about such things as democracy. People aren't going to be able to think about democracy anymore, it's too refined and there's no instant gratification, it's been phased out by evolution. But they will think about the environment when they start to suffocate and struggle for breath, so maybe Al Gore is our only hope. He has awakened people to concerned thoughts of the environment. Maybe he can mold and form our consciousness once again to thoughts of democratic principles. But he won't make a killer out of anyone, thank God. And now that God has come up, we can refer to the Bible and ascertain that God was aware of the murderous rages of mankind, and that war will occur no matter what, always has, always will. Folks'll always find a reason for it. And it won't always be for democratic principles. What would make YOU kill someone?

I don't believe that Democrats even like war so I would doubt I would be put into a situation where I would have to make that decision.
However, I think you are talking about Democracy as a whole and so I shall answer it that way. I am about to go into the Military and so this answer is going to be very war mongerish to some.
I believe in my country. I love the freedoms we are given here and I love to use them. I will fight for those freedoms and fight for all Americans that they may continue to enjoy them. That being said, ANYTHING that stands between us and our way of life is, in my mind, the enemy. I have no problem fighting/killing terrorists, harborors of terrorists, nor those who in any way shape or form assists terrorists. When 9/11 happened, a good friend of mine lost his father. Captain Jason Dahl. This man, along with the others on flight 93, sacrificed himself in order to save the lives of many others. He believed in the greater good of the people. I too share his beliefs. Threaten my fellow americans in war or peace time and perish.

I guess "only" in self-defense. If you're trying to save yourself from a lunatic you'd probably instinctively try to defend yourself.
That's just instinct. Or you might run. Or you might just turn into a piece of mush. Do you really know? Fight or flight. You probably wouldn't be able to think about it or react very well in the terror of the moment.
Now, what if you had the chance to take out such a lunatic before he/she/it ever even got a chance to wreak that kind of havoc? What if you had all the information, clear as day, right before you: the lunatic's history, profile, plans, location, key associates, etc, you-name-it?
Would you sieze the opportunity?
That's the whole point.

Not, I think. Democracy is so much better than any bullies I'd be tempted to shoot, and they are entitled to lead their own life and learn from their experiences. OK, if they really can't take a hint, they might feel safer if they killed me, but how would that help their goals? I reckon they'd live to be seriously embarrassed by their actions, and people have long memories when it comes to extreme actions against a neighbours' family, so, no, let them seek out their own death and if they are so evil, I'll dance on their grave and laugh.

This is my answer.
The only difference between a Vet and a Patriot is that the Vet has answered the call to Duty while the Patriot WILL answer the call.
