My 14 yr old niece is afraid to tell her parents she's pregnant & wants an abortion. can she have the procedure done without her parent's consent?

Please don't try to "educate" me on how you believe abortion is murder, or ask me WHY she had sex. I'm not anti-abortion, & I don't know why she had sex, I've already had this talk with her & I don't want to hear your rudeness. It's just a simple question. Do you think she can have it done or not. I will report any rude or obnoxious comments. Thank you.

it depends on where you are living at. Contact planned parenthood over the phone in your area and talk to them about it. Its possible that she can get it without them knowing but honestly she needs to just tell them. She is growing up and needs to be open and honest with her parents. What if they find out? SOmetimes they can go wrong and she may need to go to the doc after. Her parents will be so hurt if they have to find out this way.

that depends on a few things. I believe that each state has different ages of consent as well as different laws but at 14, just about all places will require a parent. She might be able to do it with just an adult, not necessarily a parent. In some states you just have to have an adult with some sort of relationship such as a school counselor or maybe a relative, in fact with the way a lot of the clinics are run, you can find any stranger on the street pretend to be your step parent or something. There is a legal alternative, if she is afraid to tell her parents because she is in fear of her well-being if her parents may become abuse if they find out, then you can ask a judge to sign the consent and if the judge things there is a danger, then they wont tell the parents. I suggest that if she is just afraid of getting in trouble and there is no danger to her safety, then she should just tell her parents. There can be a lot of medical problems that can go a long with an abortion and its always best to keep the parents involved, especially when she is only 14.

No she will definetely need consent. So since that's the case, maybe as her aunt, you should sit down with her and her parents, and help her break the news to them, maybe it won't make it easier, but it will help her. That and the fact that an abortion, either way, would be extremely risky for your niece because of her age, she is still not fully developed internally, and an abortion can medically have too many complications. This is a tough one, hopefully everything turns out okay. Good luck.

Why have an abortion at that age? Do U know how much
of a risk she will be taking? Her body is not even fully
developed yet. She needs to tell her parents. They can
help her make the right decision. What if things go wrong
and something happens to your niece? What would you
do then? How would you tell her parents? Tell them NOW

unfortunately, she needs to have parental consent in all 50 states...please do not consider having a back-alley one done because the consequences could be deadly (not for just the baby)!
another possibility would be adoption...that may not be the best thing to try and tell her mom, (that she made a mistake and she is sorry), but if she sits down and tries to explain to them that this is what she would like to do...

as a last resort, if she is balls to the wall set on getting an AB, and you think that it may be in her best interest...YOU could pose as her mom and take her...(not the best idea, because of the backfire clause..........) but it is an alternative...
good luck!

I think it depend on what state you are in. I know that some clinics will do abortions for teenagers and not notify their parents because of the whole patient/doctor confidentiality. Check with the State laws and ask the Clinic..

depends on where you live.

in my state unfortunately yes you can, I still can't imagine how that is legal, but o-well. Have her talk to her parents. Sure they will be pissed, but they will get over it, and move to a solution. In the end, if she didn't want a child, why did she have sex????????? You know, that is what sex is intended for right?

i think it depends on what state your in. but if not then the answer is no. you have to be at least 18ys old or your parents can decide if you give the baby up for adoption, get an abortion, or whatever. (in IN) the parents have legal rights last i knew to any child born of their minor. as long as she goes with any adult (18+) she can get the procedure done but otherwise she can't get it done,
