Not only is it "ok," I'd say it is almost demanded. Further, it is highly admirable, agreeable, and to any one individual's best interests (unless they're a terrified rabbit) to maintain an open mind on all fronts. This involves a practice and patience in rationality, reason, and understanding. We must evaluate all ideas, concepts, propositions, and possibilities accordingly. If we were to close our minds around one particular idea, never to venture outward, we would be closing ourselves off from a great and fantastic world. We have the opportunity to explore a vast amount of knowledge and experience in our lifetime and to gain from that a fullness of life - a joy in our journey. If we were to deny ourselves such an opportunity by refusing to open our minds, we would be doing ourselves, and possibly persons around us, a great disservice. We would be imprisoning ourselves. An open mind allows us to freely venture across the endless world of ideas, it's best this way: lest we falter and become stuck in one ideology, only to realize that we have become stuck only because of our own ignorance, unwillingness, cowardice, and insecurity. Open your mind and you'll open yourself to a whole world of wise happiness. It's the first step, I sincerely implore you to take it.

It's good to be open to hear and learn of new and different things. But putting a deserning filter on things going in, doesn't mean you have a closed mind, though many liberal minds would say otherwise. The real question is, are you open minded enough to accept opinions that don"t parrot the wide accepted Masses. Most open minded people I've ran into are pretty closed minded when confronted with a differing view on the world. Usually, when at a loss for intelligent argument resort to ugly name calling. I think they are close minded people, in my opinion. But be open minded by all means, but be sure your beliefs are really your own, not merely the noise of bleating sheep imitating the others voice.

Traditional, "closed-minded" people have lived the longest, lived most peacefully, been far better educated, had the best and oldest societies that there were.

Traditions were made for a reason.

People who buck traditions and go against the established societal identity invariably cause wars, destruction, incalculable suffering, and death on a massive scale.

Ok to be open-minded? Depends on which end of the bayonet you're standing.

To be able to see things clearly you must have an open mind. Take all the opinions that you receive, follow your heart and then your intellect. If it feels right it probably is. What is not OK is to second guess YOU and make the wrong choice. Listen, Ask Evaluate, Do

I've met a lot of close-minded people in my life, very few open minded ones. I consider myself pretty much open minded, too - but it helped me into trouble big time, when I grew up in a very conservative enviroment, where it was frowned upon to be open-minded.
I grew up in a rural german area, and after moving to the Netherlands, I found people here to be wayyyy more open minded than in my home-village (granted, not all, but in general).
So I guess, it depends very much on the enviroment, you're living in. But as an open-minded person, you won't be very happy in a judgemental enviroment.

Sure, if you don't know about a subject it is. But if you have knowledge and experience about something, usually you will have formed an opinion about it or taken a stance. That's not being "open minded", but who says being open minded is always the best answer?

Answers are diffrent. If your open mind is well, strange or creepy, dont be open minded. people will be freaked out and stay away from you. maybe laugh at you. BUT... Your more on the mature side, then, go for it. people will know you better and meet some poeple who has the same interest as you.

It is very necessary in this world nowadays to be open minded. Just make sure the thing doesn't cross the line, i.e. your own stand.

Yes it is because in that way you open yourself up to new ideas and experiences everyday. You will not have your mind blocked by preconcieved ideas and will probably find that youare curious about other religions and cultures.
