The word "advantage" makes this a loaded question.

The evolution of popular music in the digital age is an even heavier focus on singles, and even less on albums/records. At some point it may be considered "retro" to release a collection of songs as a cohesive package instead of as individual products.

Personally I think it's a dis-advantage to move away from the album format. A well done album is a work of art unto its self as the songs flow into each other seamlessly.

It mean more music but it comes with a disadvantage. The disadvantage would be that people heavily rely on singles not much of the rest of the music.
