I had an issue with my address being changed on my SSI & Social Security checks, so @ the office, they gave me an emergency check since my checks got sent to the wrong address, & the reps said that the checks being sent to the wrong address were going to be sent back to treasury, but I just got them in the mail today. What should I do with them? It's like a double payment now. Should I bring them back to the office? If I don't, & I cashed them, would I be convicted of fraud, or would I just not be given my checks for next month? I'm totally confused & don't know what to do because I'm sensing that this is an overpayment, but I don't know what to do with the checks.

Call the SSI office.... the checks probably have a phone number included somewhere in the stuff included with them, and ask them what to do. DO NOT CASH BOTH. You will have to repay the government if you cash both checks. Call them and ask them what to do... they will probably tell you to send one of the checks back to its origin.

This money is from the government? Send the checks back. Do not cash them. The federal government is very good at waiting ten years, and then coming to collect the money you owe them, plus interest.

Call and ask them. Find out if they made a mistake. If they did they will certainly find out about it eventually and will deduct whatever they overpaid from a check in the future.

You could suddenly find yourself without any money to pay the rent.

Inform the SS Office that you received two (2) checks so that proper adjustments could be made.
