Well you have received some pretty nifty answers here, and some foolish ones.
No I do not believe it is hereditary.
It is an internal problem.
You need to eat antioxidents like berries especially wild blueberries as they are about the highest in antioxidents that there is. Also it could be yeast infections. The yeast infection was my problem along with not eating properly and I was introduced to a Herboligist who put me on His products and the hair stopped falling out after the yeast cleared up. You also could have parasites as they can settle in the brain and rob your head from the nutrients it needs for your hair as well as do all sorts of damage
Also there are shampoos and conditioners and hair sprays that are all natural which help. One such hair dresser is Nick Chavez from Hollywood and he has some wonderful volumizing products as well. All natural ingredients. I Use them
I am sure there are others. Also I recall when I was a child I brushed my hair good every night But since I grew up I stopped as it messed my hair set. Which when we give our heads a good brushing it brings the oil and the blood to just under the surface of the skin and this causes more growth.
If you want to know more about the proper eating you can contact me

I think its better to check what the reasons are behind the hair thining and then look for a solution. if its heridetary, I don't think there is much to do about it but it wouldn't hurt trying. many people usually suggest oils and creams to use regularly but what I see as the main solution is simulating the blood circulations which would simulate the hair roots (making them stronger, and also helps in growing new hair).

if you could spare 10 minutes a day to do this, it will helo A LOT. just massage your scalp gently but firmly for 10 minutes in the evening (start by 5 and move up to 10). best time to do this is before going to bed, but you can do it any time during the day.

you can also do this several times throughout the day.

also, olive oil (cold-pressed, virgin) can be used once or twice a week (with a massage) to help strengthen the hair roots and keep the hair softer.

hope this helps!

If there was a natural or herbal cure for thinning hair, you wouldnt see any bald men. Sorry, but other than seeing a plastic surgeon for a hair transplant, getting a hair weave etc, just be brave and shave.

Really I have not seen any of these methods that work. You can try gently massaging the scalp to stimulate the hair follicles. I have also heard Castor oil helps. Sadly though like I said the only methods that have shown real results are medications prescribed by a doctor, or a hair transplant. Good luck.

Hi. Hair thinning is usually hereditary. However, many other things, such as stress, poor diet, illness, meds, or post-partum Alopecia could be the cause of hair thinning. Genetics is number one cause, in 99% of all prematurely thinning. Poor scalp circulation can`t cause hair thinning. I have the same problem, but it runs in my family. I have tried many different shampoos but result was poor. I think I will try med treatment.

Various tests are used in the diagnosis of Hair loss. Some of these are listed below :

* Physical examination
o Determine the pattern of hair loss e.g. male pattern balding, focal alopecia areata (localized loss of hair in round or oval areas without any visible inflammation of the skin in hair bearing areas), alopecia totalis (loss of all scalp hair and eyebrows, alopecia universalis (the end stage of alopecia areata with complete loss of all body hair)
o Examine area of skin where there is hair loss to determine if there is a skin rash, skin inflammation or skin scarring
o Examine nails. If alopecia areata- type hair loss and nails are also affected, this suggests poor prognostic chance of hair re-growth
* Blood tests

Try aloe vera...coconut oil also works well. But maybe you should see if you are using way too much shampoo on your hair. The chemicals in your shampoo could be the culprit. Better yet, go to Svenson clinic and have your hair analyzed...there could be an underlying cause which they may see.

Apply the white of a raw egg on the hair for 30 minutes, and then wash it off with a shampoo. A mixture of lemon juice and egg white and oil massage could also be used to strengthen the roots of hair. More remedies at http://www.wellnesstalk.org/hairfall.html will prevent further problems.
