When I try to open my C: drive....it cannot be opened by the usual normal double click. A message comes up stating "Please go to control panel to install and configure system components". Whats this? is it a virus?
To open my C drive I right click it and I see, Open, Autorun and a strange word 'òª¿(O). I press Open and see the contents of C Drive. From where did autorun and 'òª¿(O) come from. Is this part of a trojan virus that I had on my PC. How to clean up?

I run AVG and AVAST visus scanners, + Ad-ware and SpyBoot as well. I also have the Comodo Firewall. In am working on Windows XP SP1. The thing is that I have found viruses and cleaned them. What I have noticed is that this problem has started since my internet connection got messud up. My broadband connection is not staying always on. I am not having a stable connection. Could this be the cause? also anyone can say what does this mean - 'òª¿(O)?

run a thorough scan in the system i.e registry, spyware, etc etc and try trojan removal software not antivirus software and if you can access files or programs on c drive through their shortcuts you could try and install OS i.e. repair install or you could install in d: drive and format c: drive and then again install OS in c: and uninstall os in d: by going to windows\system32. you should probably try out the instructions given by the OS when you try opening c: if all this doesnt work and if further problems occur go for formatting it.

It's a trojan virus. My friend had the same problem. Update your anti-virus software.

Sounds like the hard disk is corrupted. Reformat the hard disk and reinstall Windows.
