Why- in the present day- is their more empahsis on the self and $ and less placed on family? And is that true?

I definitely believe that this is true. Some people may disagree, but i have noticed it too. There are many theories as to why this is. It could be the media, it could be our friends or family, or really any other source. I believe that the media is not helping this situation. Some of the reality TV shows (ie America's Next Top Model, American Idol, etc.) puts out the message that you should not care about other people and their future, but only your own. Now please don't take this the wrong way, I love watching some of these shows, but I think they don't help the situation at all. I read a book in my English class called Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury that discussed some of these issues. I would strongly recommend it. Just a warning however, this is not an easy read and from what I've heard is a controversial book. I still strongly recommend it. Hope this helps!

Not in my family! Sure, we want and we need $$$ but we try not to be consumed by our desire to riches to the exclusion of everything else. And while it may not be cool anymore, we still adhere to strong family values. It is deeply ingrained in us because of our culture (Filipino traditions) and the teaching of our Church (Catholicism). I make no apologies for my beliefs nor do I make claims that I'm any better than those who believe otherwise.

Because these are the beginnings of the "End Times" and it was foretold that it would be this way, (and get continually worse), right up until the end!
It's all in the Bible, (but of course no one reads it these days), and, actually... "End Times" prophecy is just now getting REALLY interesting!!!
