My obgyn gave me the ok after my son was born a year ago but my husband and I probably waited almost a full 3 months because we were both so exhausted all the time.
The first time we had sex I was expecting it to be uncomfortable but it's been several months now and it STILL hurts me externally EVERY TIME! We always make sure to use plenty of lubrication but it doesn't seem to make a difference.
I'm due for my annual check-up and I'm considering going to a different gynocologist. Although I was very happy with my doctor throughout my pregnancy, I'm a little concerned that if this has anything to do with his past care of me he won't be objective.

it has nothing to do with the OBGYN!... i had the same exact problem after both births! i tore a little bit during delivery, so having sex after that was literally painful! for about 3 months we would have to go very slow, and easy! it felt as if it was tearing me apart! ur muscles havent yet contracted back to nromal size and IF u tore, THAT is the painful burning u feel...try doin it on ur back ONLY, it was the only way possible for us.. ur body needs to recouporate after the tauma of pushing something 10x its size! hope this helps
