I am going to a tanning salon for the first time and so what should I do/expect? What should I bring with me, what should I wear, and what should I do to make everything go properly. I am only going to get a base tan, I don't plan on making this a habit. Thanks!

Most tanning salons already provide you with the basics free of charge - a towel, goggles, deodorant, and tissues - whether it is all pre-placed for you inside your room or it is given to you at the front desk. Some places also provide makeup remover cloths, lotion, and eye solution. In essence, you don't need to bring anything with you unless you only use a specific brand of something, you have your own goggles, etc. As far as clothing goes, I usually wear something comfy and not too fitting so it's just easier to put them back on afterwards. You can tan in the nude or wear a bathing suit/bikini or underwear if you don't mind tan lines.

When you arrive, let the receptionist know that it is your first time indoor tanning and that you want to build a base tan. He/she will recommend a base level bed, show you how it works, show you where everything is, go over the # of minutes you should tan for, go over pricing & packages, etc. To build a base tan, tan every other day or every 2 days until you reach your desired color. You may not notice any major improvement the first time, but you should start seeing results after about 3-4 sessions. Purchasing a tanning accelerator at the salon is a good idea, which speeds up the tanning process 15-20%. Since you just want a base tan, I would buy just a simple accelerator (no bronzer, no hemp, no tingle). After you reach your desired color, go once or twice a week to maintain it.

Also, someone wrote that there are rags and a cleaning bottle that you should clean the bed with before and after you use it. NOT TRUE! I've never heard of a salon doing that. All the beds are cleaned by the staff after each person uses it, so it should already be disinfected before you use it, and then someone cleans it afterwards for the next person. If tanning salons handed their customers rags and bed cleaner and told them they should clean their own beds, those salons would NOT stay in business!

Hi I am a tanning consultant in San Diego. Good for you for wanting to tan! Basically all you should being is yourself, our wallet, and tanning goggles if you have them. Just tell the consultant you are interested in just a base tan (level 1). PLEASE do not just buy ONE tan. It is a waste of your time and money. It is best to buy a bundle package so you get a few sessions in, you will not get tan with just one session. Most salons have great deals for first time clients so take advantage of them! The consultant should walk you through the salon, giving you a tour of the bed or salon and then if you are still interested, will sign you up. You can buy goggles there and I recommend you buy lotion, whether it's a whole bottle or a one time use packet, you will time 70% better with a lotion. Any other questions just ask your consultant! They should also show you how to use the bed, hope this helps!

I would say, wear what ever you feel comfortable in. I personally tan in the nude so that i don't have lines. Each bed is assigned to a different room, with a lock. However, a bikini or bra and underwear work too. Also, make sure and get a lotion that doesnt have tingle in it. It will burn your booty in seconds flat for a first timer. Make sure you have sunnies to protect your eyes. And I usually bring extra little disinfectant wipes for the bed. Also, so you dont burn, i would recommend not going into a 20 minute bed. They will burn you easier. You may experience some itching afterward too, just because your skin is getting used to tanning. Kinda like when you get a sunburn or seomthing but when you itch it, it doesnt really hurt much. Happy Tanning!

well bring a towel to wrap your hair in due to it will dry it out..and use body wash not soap so your tan will last longer. Make sure you wear the goggles and only stay in about 6 minutes the first time...Use tanning lotion that has a bronzer in it and do not use anything that has the tingle factor. Put a sticker on you that the salon has for free (playboy bunny, sunshine, dolphine etc.) to see your results....usually within a few hours

okay what a dumbass! I cant believe what she said to you!! So you go in, check in at the desk...make sure you tell her this is your first tima and you are not sure what to do. She will take you to a little room with a tanning bed. I always tan at places that have enclosed rooms, not places that are like dressing rooms where you can look over the top at the next person. there are a lot of bad ppl that will take pictures and sell them on the net so make sure the room is totally enclosed. There will be the tanning bed, a chair to set your clothes on and a mirror. You will either have to buy little peeps at the check in desk or you borrow them from the desk but you do need peeps. They are like tiny littls glases that cover your eyeballs only. You can not tan with out them. the lady willshow you how to set the tanning bed, you can tan for up to 30 min at a time but if you have fair skin you should go for only 5 min. Serioulsy i went in a burt on the backside, since thats tha part that touches the bed! There will be a little cleaned bottle and rags, always clean the bed before and after using. Then the lady leaves. LOCK THE DOOR! take your clothes off, or some ppl go with panties but I hate tan lines. make sure to take of all jewelry. Turn bed on, lay down and lower the top of the bed. The tanning bed will not close and lock all the way so there is no way for you to get *stuck* in it. Its loud so bring your ipod for some music. Some places have radios there but not all of them. THis is your first time so just lay still, make sure to keep your legs apart a little so you dont have white going down the insides of your legs. When you start going more and getting some good color..make sure to space your arms from you body to get your armpits tanned and raise your knees slightly. SOme ppl will forget to tan the crease under your butt thats at the top of your legs..you know what im talking about? Once you get good color take a good look in the mirror and make sure you dont have any white spots. Do streaches and make sure everypart is covered lol When your 5 min are up the bed automatically turns off..it scared me the first time becuase its really loud and hot and all of a sudden it goes dark! Lift the lid...put your clothes back on...clean the bed and leave. SOme places give you a key so make sure to return the key and borrowed goggles. And thats all! Have fun! I love tanning and I will be setting an appiontment up soon also. Just dont go crazy! Get a nice brown and stay that way. Some girls go orange and thats not cool. Once you hit your good color you may go once a week for 10 min to keep it up. Also make sure to put your hair in a pony and keep it off your neck. Ive seen girls all tanned up but their back of the neck part is all white! Also ONLY use lotion thats made for tanning beds! ANy other lotion or baby oil will block out the tan rays and it will take FOREVER for you to get some color. The salon will have some lotions you can buy, ask them

Why dont you use the money to travelling to a sunny neighbouring country tanning yourself in a healthy way and at the same time educate yourself with new cultures. If you have enouch cash, why dont you just go to Bali.
